Have You Heard Of These Strange Laws?

Have You Heard Of These Strange Laws?

Have You Heard Of These Strange Laws?

Just about everyone knows that not every idea is a good idea. We’ve all had ideas that we thought were great at the time, but learned in retrospect that they really weren’t that great. It can surprise some people to learn that even state governments have bad ideas from time to time. Some of these bad ideas became laws, while others did not. Some of these bad laws, are still technically in effect today.

Here are some examples of bad laws from around the country:

  • In Idaho, it is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing less than fifty pounds.
  • Also from Idaho, riding a merry-go-round on Sundays is a crime.
  • In Rhode Island, any marriage where one of the person’s is a lunatic or an idiot is null and void.
  • Montana made it illegal for married women to fish alone on Sundays, and for unmarried women to ever fish alone.
  • Nudity is allowed in New Mexico, provided the genitals are covered on men and the nipples are covered on women.

On top of these silly laws, there are some that are so bizarre that you would wonder how they ever became a law. What makes them weirder, is that, these multiple states have the same strange laws.

  • Just about every state has some law limiting or outlawing sexual acts between couples, and/or the use adult toys.
  • Several land locked states have made whaling illegal.
  • Multiple states have laws against carrying ice cream cones in your back pocket.
  • At least two states have laws about crossing the state line with a duck or chicken on your head.

Sometimes, bad ideas make it into laws, and unfortunately, these strange laws do not always get removed from the books. Thankfully, most police officers will not arrest people for these weird laws. This allows us to look through and laugh at all of the strange laws from around the country.

The 5 Stages Of Grief

The 5 Stages Of Grief

The 5 Stages Of Grief

There are people out there that might be currently dealing with letting go of past relationships. These people might find themselves going through the five stages of grief. Even though you’re cutting off a bad relationship, you are still dealing with a loss. These steps are the same if you are experiencing death or divorce as well.

Here are the 5 steps of grief that can apply to any big changes in ones life:

  • Denial – This stage is when you believe that the reality of the situation is untrue. You may believe that your reality is dream and cling to a falsehood.
  • Anger – This stage is when you may become frustrated with the reality. This is where you might look for someone or something to take your anger out on.
  • Bargaining – This stage is when you believe there is another option to avoid the reality. This is when you believe you can make a compromise.
  • Depression – This is the stage when you may feel the most withdrawn from reality. You may experience a deep sadness and a lack of purpose.
  • Acceptance – This is the stage when you come to terms with reality. This is the most positive stage you can find yourself in. Typically when you’ve reached this stage, you’ve completed the five stages.

However, that is not always the case…

According to Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, author of On Death and Dying, created the model of the five stages of grief after extensive research. These stages of grief don’t fall into any order and do not have a set amount of time in which they occur. This means that you can spend two weeks in denial, but only one day in anger. Kubler-Ross found that these five emotions are the most commonly shared among people.

Significant changes in one’s life can emotionally derail us. However, understanding these five steps can help you get back on track. Just know, if you’re experiencing grief of any kind, it will eventually pass.

Motorcycle Laws

Motorcycle Laws

Motorcycle Laws

Each state has different laws in regards to a lot of things, but what you may not think about is the difference in motorcycle laws. California has a different set of laws pertaining to motorcycles than others states. If you’re thinking about getting your motorcycle license (M1), you may want to look at all the laws and requirements first. It’s not as simple as buying a bike.

Here are some of the laws the California DMV has in regards to motorcycles:

  • Eye protection is not required.
  • In order to be street legal motorcycles must have turn signals and a mirror.
  • The age requirement to obtain a M1 license is 16.
  • If you are under 21 years old, you must take a safety course in order to get your M1 license.
  • If you are over 21 years old you must take a skills test in order to obtain your M1 license.
  • “Lane Splitting” is authorized per California Highway Patrol.
  • Helmets are required of all motorcycle riders and must be Department of Transportation (DOT) approved.
  • When carrying a passenger, footrests for the passenger are required.
  • There is no age limit for a passenger.
  • Periodic safety inspections are required by law, but are at random.
  • Daytime use of headlights is required for all motorcycles from 1978 and later.

There are several more technical laws in regards to handlebar height, insurance speakers, and ear plugs. There are two laws that vary the most between the states. Those two are the helmet and lane splitting laws.

The helmet requirement, even though it seems obvious for safety reasons, is not a law in other states. States like Texas don’t require riders to wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle. As long as they have completed a rider safety course or have the proper insurance coverage. However, if you are under 21 in the state of Texas you must wear a helmet.

The lane splitting law is also different between states. Again, most states, like Texas do not authorize lane splitting. Lane splitting is when a motorcycle shares the lane with another vehicle or rides the line between lanes. Lane splitting is common in heavy traffic situation. Motorcyclist will use lane splitting to pass vehicles.

If you’re ever in doubt of motorcycle laws in your area, the DMV suggests looking at their Motorcycle Safety pamphlet. Another great source of information for motorcyclist is the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) website. On the AMA website, they also have more information about off-road motorcycle laws, as well as all of the road laws. Motorcycles can be fun and freeing to ride. However, if you don’t follow the laws you might not be a free-bird for very long.

How To Recover From Identity Theft

We all only have one identity, and for most people that is enough. However, some bad people out there like to steal other people’s identities to gain access to funds they normally wouldn’t have. This is called identity theft and can be very damaging to the person whose identity was stolen.

Most people learn about identity theft after some damage has already been done. They discover the theft when strange bills start coming in, or when they try to apply for a loan. That is when they find out their identity was stolen, and their credit ruined.

Thankfully, this is not the end for them.

It is possible for a person to recover from identity theft.

The first thing they need to do after discovering the theft, is contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and file a report of the identity theft. The FTC will ask questions about the theft and inform the person on how they can recover from the theft.

After that has been done, the person will then need to contact the companies where they know fraud from the identity theft occurred, and alert them to the problem. The person should also issue a fraud alert and get a credit report, which will allow the person to check for any other incidents of fraud. Lastly, a person can file a report with their local police department.

Learning of identity theft can be startling and upsetting, but it is possible to recover. The most important part of recovering from identity theft is remaining calm. This will help the person make good, clear decisions while on the road to recovery.

Why Does Bail Even Exist?

Why Does Bail Even Exist?

Why Does Bail Even Exist?

For most people, bail is a bit of a mystery. They understand the basic concept, pay money to get out of jail, but that’s all they know. Some people wonder why bail even exists at all. These people often do not want criminals to get out of jail just by paying money. The problem is, these people do not typically have a good idea on how bail works.

Bail exists for two main reasons:

    1. To try and prevent overcrowding of jails.
    2. To avoid punishing someone before they have been found guilty.

Bail has existed for hundreds of years, and its origins can be traced back to medieval England. Back then, not every town had its own judge to determine a person’s guilt. Many towns shared judges, and so arrested individuals could spend a long time in jail before ever getting their day in court. This led to overcrowding, and local sheriffs would need to release arrested person’s to free up some room.

In these situations, the sheriffs found that many of the arrested individuals did not like to return for their day in court. They found that the best way to ensure that someone returned for their court date, was by making them pay for their release, and promising to return the money after their court date. This idea has stuck around since then, and it has proven to be very effective.

The important thing to remember about bail, is that only people who have not had their final day in court can bail out of jail. Once a person has been found guilty, they can no longer bail out of jail. A person can only bail out of jail when they are still in the trial process. This means this person is technically innocent, since everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Keeping the person in jail during their trial process is like punishing a person for a crime before it has been determined they actually committed the crime.

Bail exists to be fair to those accused of a crime. After all, they are still people and they still have rights. It is important to remember that there is a screening process for assigning bail. A person can only be granted bail if it is deemed that he will not cause trouble for the community. So dangerous people will never be released on bail.

  • Keep your hands on the wheel.
  • Retrieve your license, registration, and insurance when the officer requests it.
  • You can refuse the officer if he or she asks to search your vehicle, but items in plain sight can be used to their advantage; like if they see a bottle of liquor in the passenger seat.

Good Workouts You Can Do Indoors

Good Workouts You Can Do Indoors

For many people, this is a time when keeping of that pesky extra few pounds becomes difficult. This is, after all, why it is referred to as winter weight.

Part of the problem is that the weather can become too cold for some to exercise outdoor like they’d prefer. These people do not have the money or maybe even the desire, to go to a public gym. They also do not have the capability to create an in home gym. For these people, it can become a real hassle to try to work out and keep those extra pounds at bay.

Luckily, there are a number of great exercises that a person can do with some dumbbells and other regular household objects.

Here are a few examples:

  • Single-Leg Dead Lift
  • Start in a standing position with a dumbbell in each hand. Slowly bend forward at the hip until your torso is parallel to the ground, and allowing both arms to flow freely to the ground. As your torso bends forward, raise one leg back for balance and stop when it is parallel to the ground. Then return to a standing position and repeat.

  • Shoulder Press Squats
  • Start in a standing position with your feet a shoulder length apart, and a dumbbell in each hand. Bring the dumbbells to shoulder height. Begin with a basic squat by bending your knees and lowering your waist to the ground while keeping your torso upright. Descend as far as your flexibility will allow, all the while, keeping the dumbbells at your shoulders. Remain squatting for a moment, before rising to a standing position once again. After you are standing again, raise your arms straight above your head, then return them to your shoulders. After that, repeat the process again, starting with the squat.

  • Bulgarian Split Squat
  • Start by standing in front of an object of your choosing, such as a couch or chair, that is around knee height and with a dumbbell in each hand. With your back to the object, bring one foot up and let it rest on this object. Begin by lowering yourself to the ground, allowing your arms to hang freely at your side. Be sure to keep your front knee in line with your foot. After you have lowered yourself as far as you can, bring yourself back to a standing position. Repeat the process.

  • One-Arm Dumbbell Row
  • Start in a push-up position, with one hand on the floor, and the other holding a dumbbell. Stay in this position as you raise the dumbbell to the side of your chest. Lower it, then repeat the process for the desired number of reps. After that, switch sides and repeat.

This is just a small sample of what exercises a person can do within their own home, and there are many more out there. Go out and find the best workouts that work for you. Do not let the colder weather prevent you from having the body you want.

How Helpful Are Online Reviews

How Helpful Are Online Reviews

How Helpful Are Online Reviews

In today’s modern age, we are able to research anything thanks to the internet. We can even research a company before we give them our business. This has given consumers a better way to learn more about a company, and hopefully prevent them from being scammed.

However, even with all of this knowledge of reviews, there are still some people out there that do not think reviews play that big of a roll in business. These people would be wrong. Reviews are very important to businesses.

A large percentage of people like to look up the reviews of different businesses before deciding which one to use.

Just think how many times you have used reviews to determine where to have lunch in a new city.

Often times, the problem with reviews, is that most people do not take the time to leave one unless they feel they were wronged in some way. This leads to a surplus of negative reviews out there for some companies. Even one bad review can have large consequences for a company. It can be hard to recover from, especially since good reviews are hard to get.

This has led to a surplus of negative reviews out there, which causes many people to choose the company with the least amount of negative reviews.

While these negative reviews can be very bad for most companies, some have learned to turn it into an advantage. There are actually companies out there that will put negative reviews on their competitors. This lowers their competitor’s scores and makes it harder for them to get clients, which in turn makes things easier for the bad company.

Reviews are very important to companies, and that is why the good ones try so hard to take care of their clients. If you have found a company that you like, and you want it to continue to do well, leave a positive review for it online. Doing so will help other people find the same kind of amazing help that you found, which will help the business stay around.

Dog Bite Laws In California

Dog Bite Laws In California

Dog Bite Laws In California

Nobody likes to get hurt, especially when someone else could have and should have taken measures to prevent the incident from happening. One kind of such incident is dog bites. There is not a single person alive who would want to get bitten by a dog.

The state of California has strict liability laws when it comes to dog bites. In most instances, the dog owner is liable if their dog bites someone. This means that the person who was bit has the right to seek legal compensation from the animal’s owner.

Some states limit when a dog owner is liable for their dog biting someone. For instance, some states only hold the owner liable if the dog has proven to be violent or vicious in the past. However, that is not the case in the state of California.

Regardless of whether or not the dog has bitten someone in the past, the owner is still liable for anyone their dog injures by biting.

The only time a person is not liable for their dog biting someone is if the person who was bit was trespassing on the owner’s private property.

Due to this fact, it is important for dog owners to keep their pets safe in their home or yard. If the dog gets out and bites someone, that person has the legal right to seek legal compensation from the dog’s owner.
